A 20-vehicle crash that shut down the Mendota Bridge in one direction Sunday night was blamed on icy roads, which also caused more than 100 crashes across the state.

Snowy weather and temperatures hovering near the freezing point caused 132 crashes and 75 spinouts, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

One accident caused serious injuries while another 13 resulted in less serious injuries. No fatalities were reported.

Conditions on the Mendota Bridge on Hwy. 55 in Mendota Heights were especially treacherous. The westbound side of the bridge was closed temporarily.
