Snow, Cold for Britain, Northwest Europe

November 24, 2010 at 8:25PM

The coldest weather of the season so far will grip much of northern and westernEurope through at least week's end sparking outbreaks of significant snow.Temperatures across Germany and France to Britain and Scandinavia will slide 10F to as much as 20 F below normal.

(The Minnesota Star Tribune)

Snow will fall selectively, though locally heavily, as far south as thePyrenees. Southern and eastern Scandinavia along with hilly areas of theBritish Archipelago will be among the locations most prone to get snow.

The impact of the weather will be felt on streets and highways, where travelcould be slowed by snow- or ice-slick surfaces.

Low visibility and ceiling owing to snow or rain could tie up flights at busyairports from London and Manchester to Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.

Energy demand for home heating will rise substantially.
