The Rutgers University Programming Association paid Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi of the reality TV show "Jersey Shore" $32,000 Thursday March 31, 2011 to dish on her hairstyle, fist pumps, as well as the GTL _ gym, tanning, laundry_ lifestyle. That's $2,000 more than the $30,000 the university is paying Nobel-winning novelist Toni Morrison to deliver Rutgers' commencement address in May. (AP Photo/Charles Sykes, File)

College is overrated. Well, some college. You can get a fine education at the U of M, if you try; it's not necessary to go to an expensive school, unless you're looking for connections that will help you down the line. But saddling yourself with enormous debt so you can get a degree in something with no practical application might not be the best idea. Especially if your college is spending your tuition on things like . . . Snooki. AP reports:

Remember, "dish" means "talk about." So Rutgers paid this orangey-hued ninny $32,000 to make utterances about her hair, and the act of pumping's one fist in the air to indicate approval. Okay. She had advice for the students, too: "Study hard, but party harder!" The AP story quoted above doesn't give you full flavor of the event. Go here the New Jersey Star-Ledger's story to see how she was received. Hint: very well.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
