A small plane failed to stop upon landing and crashed through a fence at the end of a runway at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, ending up on a nearby road, authorities said.
The pilot, the only person on board, was uninjured.
The incident on the eastern edge of the general aviation airport happened about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, sending police and fire crews to the scene, police said.
Emergency personnel found that the single-engine Cirrus SR20 had come to a stop on Flying Cloud Drive, bringing traffic in both directions to a halt for nearly three hours, according to police and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
"The plane was landing, was unable to come to a stop on the runway, so continued off the runway and through a fence, onto Flying Cloud Drive," said police spokeswoman Katie Beal.
The plane is leased by Hummingbird Aviation, which is based at the airport, an employee for Hummingbird said Wednesday.
FAA records show that the plane's ownership is registered to an address near 50th and France in Minneapolis. The name of the pilot has yet to be released.
The crash is under investigation by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board. Authorities have yet to say what led to the plane crashing through the fence.
