A small plane crashed into a residential neighborhood and burst into flamesnear Fort Lauderdale, Fla. late this morning. The plane struck and destroyed ahome in the Oakland Park community. At this time, there appears to be at leastone fatality.Observations around the time of the crash at Fort Lauderdale Airport indicatedbroken cloud cover between 3,500 and 4,500 feet with a wind from the east andnortheast averaging 10 to 15 mph and a few gusts between 20 and 25 mph. Thehorizontal visibility was 10 miles or better.

No rain or thunderstorms were in the vicinity. With surface temperatures in the70s, conditions were too warm to suspect icing as a cause.
