SLOPPY GOBBLERS

Serves 6.

Cost per serving of filling, using bargain ground-turkey: 72 cents.

• 1 tbsp. oil

• 1 lb. ground turkey

• 1 small onion, chopped

• 1/3 c. or more chopped bell pepper

• 1 rib celery, chopped

• 1 to 2 garlic cloves, minced, optional

• Salt and pepper to taste

• Herbs to taste (such as 1/2 tsp.dried thyme, oregano or basil)

• 1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce

• About 1/2 tsp. sugar

Directions

Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add turkey, onion, bell pepper, celery, garlic, salt and pepper, and herbs and sauté, stirring often, until turkey is thoroughly cooked. Drain any liquid from pan and add the tomato sauce and sugar. Continue cooking until thoroughly heated and mixture reaches desired consistency. Serve in buns or on toast.
