Slippery Snow from Northern Plains to Midwest

December 21, 2009 at 1:25PM

Ahead of a storm lashing the Northwest today, the clash of mild air to thesouth and frigid air to the north will allow a swath of snow to develop overthe northern Plains. The snow will streak from eastern Montana to southernMinnesota and northern Iowa today. Most areas will get 1-3 inches of snow, but a thin corridor from the Dakotas tosouthern Minnesota will get 3-6 inches of snow.

Untreated secondary roads and highways could become very slippery by theafternoon and evening commute today. Interstates 29, 35, 90, and 94 may allhave slippery stretches.

Meanwhile, cold, blustery conditions will spark snow showers over downwindareas of the Great Lakes. Accumulations will be light, from 1-3 inches, just tothe lee of the lakes.
