World War II vet to share experiences
"Memories of WWII: 50 Missions in a B-17," a presentation by Bob Clemens, an Army Air Force veteran from White Bear Lake, will be presented at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, in the public meeting room of the Lake Elmo Public Library, 3537 Lake Elmo Ave. N.
Clemens enlisted after his high school graduation in 1942 and was trained as an aviation navigator. He was later stationed in Italy as a member of a bomber crew.
He is also one of the subjects of an award-winning North Metro TV documentary, "Aviation Storytellers: the Tail Gunner and the Navigator." Now, he is sharing his memories of that harrowing time.
Also during February, the library is offering a "Blind Date with a Book" program. Do you want to get back into circulation? Select a brown paper-wrapped book from the special display. How many hearts will you give the book? Check it out, read it, and fill in the brief book rating slip to enter the drawing for a sweet prize donated by Candyland in Stillwater. The drawing will be held at noon on March 1.
