Singletary hiring appears close

Former San Francisco 49ers coach expected to coach Vikings linebackers

It looks like Mike Singletary is close to joining the Vikings coaching staff. A league source said it "looks good" that Singletary will accept a job on Leslie Frazier's staff as linebackers coach.

NFL.com also reported Sunday night that the Vikings are expected to reach a deal with the former San Francisco 49ers coach. The news is not surprising given Frazier's connection with Singletary.

The two were roommates with the Chicago Bears and became close friends. They talk at least one week and their families also are extremely close.

With Singletary in charge of linebackers, Fred Pagac is expected to remain as the defensive coordinator. He took over that role when Frazier was elevated to interim head coach.
