If I'm right, this Reuters piece is actually making a sly reference to something in season seven:

I'm saving the last ten seasons for later. Haven't watched in years, which is painful and sad; it's odd how your favorite show turns into something about which you've little interest at all. You pound the TV and shout be funnier but nothing happens. Unless it did get good again, and I'm missing the Renaissance of Simpsonism. Maybe. Anyway, what's the reference in the first line? Hint: it was spoken . . . by one of these guys. But not in this sequence.
