Not for his Withering Commentary or capacious ego, mind you, but for his charity work:

All well and good, but you can't shake the picture of Simon choosing a charity based on which one gave the most dramatic pitch. The comments at the Mirror site are rather anti-Simon:

The people who turned down knighthood, either because they felt they didn't deserve the honor or thought the whole thing was a load of bollocks in the first place, include Malcolm McDonnell, Yeats, Bowie, Ralph Vaughn Williams, and others. Not one was an "up themselves fool," either.
