Weather folklore is fun, but in most cases does not accurately foretell whatthe coming winter will bring.Shown here are three of the many signs that have been cited as supposedtelltales of a hard winter ahead.

The well-know woolly bear caterpillar, when showing unusually broad blackbands, is said to foretell a hard winter to come.

Another supposed link is that between bushy squirrel tails and tough winters.

An unusually heavy crop of acorns is another oft-cited "harbinger."And there are others.

Of course, which each of these, factors not necessarily weather-related can befound to account for these signs, so they may actual project a false"signal."Story by AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist John Kocet and Jim Andrews
