The Sigma Foundation Book Scholarship

High School juniors and seniors in the Twin Cities area are invited to compete for $2,000 in prize money by participating in the essay contest where they will be asked to share their thoughts on one of the most noteworthy accomplishments of one of the most prominent African American inventors, George Washington Carver. Each entry needs to include the applicant's name and the high school that they attend, along with their parent's contact information.

ESSAY QUESTION: Legendary Phi Beta Sigma Man, George Washington Carver was known for inventing over 300 uses for the peanut. Which one of these inventions is the most valuable to you and why?"

ELIGIBILITY: Male and female college-bound high school juniors and seniors attending public, private, religious, or charter schools.

ESSAY LENGTH: Minimum of 350 words (which is roughly one page and a half double spaced).

STUDENT CASH PRIZES: $500 book scholarships for the Top 4 entries.

DEADLINE FOR ESSAY SUBMISSIONS: December 30, 2010. All essays must be submitted in Microsoft Word format, double spaced and sent to PBSEssayContest@gmail.com.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED: January 3^rd and awarded at the Phi Beta Sigma Founder's Day Celebration on Saturday, January 8, 2011. Winners will receive complimentary tickets to the Founder's Day Celebration for themselves and two guests.
