Sicoli not afraid to put in the work

March 13, 2011 at 3:10AM

Senior Ben Sicoli recently completed his final season as the point guard of Eagan's boys' basketball team. Here is a closer look at Sicoli:

The best movie I've seen in the past year? "King's Speech."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "Blowin' Money Fast" by Rick Ross; "Stan: by Eminem; "September" by Earth Wind & Fire.

Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Intense; crafty; cordial.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? I wish there was a shot clock in high school basketball, but other than that I love high school sports.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? Get as much stuff done during the school day as possible, and every now and then deal with a late night.

Favorite pregame meal? Mac and cheese or a sandwich with whatever is in the fridge.

How did you get started playing basketball? My dad has always had a passion for basketball and he introduced me to the game as soon as I could stand. He always helped to push me to become all that I could be and he's the reason I am the player that I am today.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... young and small. I was only a freshman and we had a 7-footer on the team that year. It was one of the only times in my life that I've felt short.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? "Today I'll do what you won't, so that tomorrow I can do what you can't." It's a quote that my coach Paul said inspired him when he used to play and he gave me and all my teammates a cut out of it when we were younger, and it's still in my room today.
