Shooting victim ID'd; police seek potential witness

August 22, 2012 at 3:56AM

Authorities released the name Tuesday of the 30-year-old man who was shot to death Saturday night in south Minneapolis.

Michael Wesley Jones Jr. of Minneapolis was found at E. 22nd Street and Portland Avenue S. shot in the chest, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. The shooting occurred in a hall of a nearby apartment building in the 2200 block of 5th Avenue S., police said.

Police do not believe the shooting was random. They did not find the weapon used in the confrontation.

There have been no arrests, and police say they are looking for "a possible witness" who was seen fleeing the apartment building. She is described as black, in her early 20s, slender with dark, shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a pink top.

Anyone with information about the woman or anything else about the case is asked to call the police Tips Line at 612-692-8477.
