A Dakota County judge sentenced a 36-year-old St. Paul man Thursday to 19 years in prison for multiple felonies related to an August 2014 drive-by shooting in West St. Paul.

Jorge Roman Vasquez was convicted by a Dakota County jury on March 5 of attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault and of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the charges, police were called to a West St. Paul apartment on Aug. 18, where they found a man with gunshot wounds to his arm and leg. Vasquez's girlfriend later told police that the victim was her ex-boyfriend.

A witness told officers that Vasquez drove up to a garage where the witness and others were drinking beer. Vasquez didn't say a word but pointed a gun out of the car window and started shooting, the witness said.

Vasquez's criminal history includes a first-degree aggravated robbery conviction, for which he was imprisoned until March 2014. The sentence delivered Thursday by District Judge Timothy McManus is the maximum allowed by law.
