Sherlock Holmes + Mad Men = good choice

Some early morning casting news.

Sherlock Holmes fans may not have been fans of the last Sherlock Holmes movie. It was a departure, if you're expecting the thin beak-nosed version in the deerstalker cap, shouting INDUBITABLY with crisp authority, but there's only one Basil Rathbone, and he's dead. Not everyone liked Robert Downey's interpretation, but I thought it was marvelous - he was nothing like Rathbone, but he has the ability to project a certain mercurial intelligence. They're making a sequel, and this time he'll be up against his arch-nemesis, Moriarity. Who will play the role?

Oh good heavens Watson, no. Not Pitt. I don't care how good he is; he's Brad Pitt, and you have to get past that before you buy him as Moriarity. Which is why this rumor is good news:

Perfect.

He plays Lane Pryce on "Mad Men," and projects a reserved, prickly, intellectual vibe that will be a perfect foil for Downey. Bonus: he's the son of Richard Harris. I did not know that.

PS I would have linked to Latinoreview.com, but the post wasn't too hot. It's here, if you want to see what I mean. Who's Stephen Fry Fry?
