Sheriff: Minneapolis man busted near Chicago with $1.75 million worth of meth

A 22-year-old Minneapolis man has been charged with intent to deliver narcotics after roughly 25 pounds of suspected crystal methamphetamine was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop over the weekend in suburban Chicago, authorities said.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office put the street value of the drug haul at $1.75 million.

According to the Sheriff's Office:

Shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, Roberto Ortiz was pulled over in an SUV on Interstate 90, for suspected traffic violations.

Ortiz allowed the officer to search his vehicle. Uncovered was suspected crystal meth under the front driver seat and in a box in the back of the vehicle.

Ortiz was arrested and has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He posted bond Monday and was set free pending a court appearance Friday, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.

Monday, March 3, 2014 —A 22-year-old Minneapolis man has been charged with felony narcotics possession with intent to deliver after approximately 25 pounds of suspected crystal methamphetamine was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Arlington Heights, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said today. At approximately 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, Sheriff’s Police stopped a white, 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe in the 200 block of East Algonquin Road in Arlington Heights after an officer observed the vehicle commit traffic violations. Officers found suspected crystal methamphetamine under the front driver seat and in a box located in the back of the vehicle. Approximately 25 pounds – which has an estimated street value of $1.75 million was recovered. Ortiz was arrested and has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
