Shapiro & Smith's 31st season

Minnesota's Shapiro & Smith Dance kicks off its third decade of dance-making with "Later That Night," Artistic Director Joanie Smith's new duet about romantic near misses. Also on the program are recent new works including last season's comedic all-male trio "A Naked Man's Shirt" and "Hands," a 2016 piece about communication that takes inspiration from sign language and baseball signals. The evening closes with the audience-pleasing "Bolero," featuring an ensemble of 18 women dancing to Maurice Ravel's rousing music. (8 p.m. Fri. & Sat., Cowles Center, 528 Hennepin Av.., Mpls., $29, 612-206-3600, thecowlescenter.org.)
