Anniversary dance

Shapiro & Smith Dance celebrates its 30th anniversary by looking back — and forward. Founded by Danial Shapiro and Joanie Smith, the company first performed in New York City in 1987. It relocated to the Twin Cities in 1999, with Smith assuming a solo leadership role after Shapiro's passing in 2006. This week's program features classic Shapiro-Smith co-creations such as the Beethoven-fueled "Moonlight" (last performed in the Twin Cities in 1999). Also featured is a gender-swapped version of the company's popular "Bolero" (this time with an all-female cast) and a brand-new comic meditation on power and competition titled "A Naked Man's Shirt." (8 p.m. Thu.-Sat., the Cowles Center, Mpls., $29, 612-206-3636, thecowlescenter.org.)

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
