A Shakopee man slain in a home apparently had a prior relationship with the armed robber who repeatedly shot him Tuesday, police said Wednesday evening.

A witness called 911 about 7 p.m. Tuesday from the home in the 800 block of Prairie Street S., Shakopee police Capt. Craig Robson said. The victim was in his 30s, Robson said, declining to identify him.

The Hennepin County medical examiner's office said the victim's name would be released Thursday morning.

Robson said police are confident that there is only one killer, who remains at large.

"This doesn't appear to be a random incident, and the general public is not in jeopardy or in harm's way due to this incident," Robson said. "There appears to be some kind of a relationship at some level."

He declined to say how many witnesses were in the home at the time of the shooting or who was present. "We're not ready to go there yet," Robson said of that and other details of the slaying. He said police had not specifically identified the shooter.

Officers were still processing the scene Wednesday night, Robson said. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Scott County Sheriff's Office were assisting.
