Shakopee is about to weigh the pros and cons of a $400,000 package to entice a data center to locate in the city.
A public hearing is set for April 9.
Dallas-based Compass Data Centers would build a facility holding banks of computer servers on 11 acres in the Dean Lakes area. It would invest $67 million over two years and is telling the city that at least 40 jobs would arrive with average pay of $68,500.
The city's Economic Development Advisory group has recommended refunding a portion of the newly enhanced property taxes for nine years to the tune of about $282,000.
City staffers are holding out the promise of an additional $120,000 in enticements in the form of utility hookups needed at the site, bringing the total to about $400,000, officials said.
The public hearing on the proposal is 7 p.m. April 9 in the council chambers at City Hall, 129 S. Holmes St.
