A man suspected of sexually assaulting his girlfriend in her St. Paul home early Thursday fled police at triple-digit speeds in the middle of the night through several south metro cities, ultimately being caught after he crashed his vehicle, authorities said.

The chase started about 3:35 a.m. on northbound I-35 near 185th Street in Lakeville, cut through Bloomington and skirted other cities before ending in Eagan roughly 15 minutes later.

The car, having lost a tire at some point during the pursuit from officers laying down "stop sticks," hit an overpass on northbound Cedar Avenue at Cliff Road in Eagan, according to police and scanner audio captured by the Police Clips website.

The man was apprehended at that point and taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, according to Eagan police. A hospital spokeswoman said the man was in good condition.

It was shortly after midnight when the 30-year-old man broke into his girlfriend's home, sexually assaulted her and left, St. Paul police said. Lakeville police said the initial crime involved a weapon.

At two spots along the route, the fleeing suspect was reported to be traveling at speeds topping 110 miles per hour, according to the officers' scanner transmissions.
