Associated Press Welcome back, Diablo Cody. As the Oscar-winning scribe continues to write and produce Showtime's mental illness comedy "The United States of Tara," which launched its second season Monday, she's also setting up several film projects. There are adaptations in the works: the "Sweet Valley High" books for Universal and a "Taming of the Shrew" re-do in development at Paramount. She's also got an original screenplay in development, with several major players from "Juno" on board. "Young Adult" reportedly follows a divorced, thirtyish writer of young adult fiction in Minneapolis as she stalks her high school boyfriend, who is now a husband and father. Cody told "New York" magazine, "It has elements of humor, but it's pretty serious and f***** up." She likened the protagonist to a female version of Mickey Rourke's antihero in "The Wrestler." John Malkovich will executive produce, as he did for the $227 million hit "Juno."
The "Young Adult" script is on the desk of the Minnesota Film and TV Board's executive director Lucinda Winter, but she doubts that it will be filmed locally unless the state makes an unexpected decision to establish a competitive production rebate.
