Severe thunderstorms rumbled into parts of Minnesota Monday evening, pummeling some areas with hail as large as 3 inches.

A severe thunderstorm was in effect for much of the evening for more than 20 counties stretching from Sherburne in central Minnesota to the Twin Cities metro area down to Goodhue in the southeast corner of the state. Most of those watches expired before 10 p.m.

Throughout the evening, the weather service was peppered with reports of hail, ranging in size from a half-inch to 3 inches in Rush City. Earlier in the day, a trained weather service spotter reported seeing a funnel cloud near Princeton.
