January 15, 2010 at 8:25PM

Much of Western Australia will be under the threat for wildfires this weekendthrough early next week.High pressure strengthening over the Great Australian Bight will send very hotair from central portions of the continent westward into Western Australia ongusty easterly breezes this weekend. As a result, many locations, including thecoastal city of Perth, with have temperatures reach or exceed 100 degrees F (38degrees C) and may even exceed 110 degrees F (43 degrees C) in some areas.

These temperatures are 15-20 degrees above normal.

This blistering heat will combine with very low humidity levels to fuel asevere wildfire danger across the state. Gusty winds through the weekend andearly next week can quickly spread any wildfires that develop.
