A pregnant woman who was a passenger in a car hit broadside by a pickup truck Saturday in Scott County miscarried as the result of the crash, the Minnesota State Patrol reported Sunday.

The pickup, westbound on 220th Street, failed to yield at the intersection with Hwy. 13 and hit a southbound car in which the woman was a passenger.

The driver of the car, Nathan Messer, 32, of Victoria, suffered minor injuries. His passenger, Katie Messer, 28, also was injured and lost her 4 1/2-month-old fetus, the State Patrol said.

The truck driver, Kevin Hafermann, 40, of Prior Lake, suffered minor injuries.

The Scott County collision was one of several serious crashes in the region over Easter weekend.

In Mahnomen County, two people died in a two-car collision on Saturday night east of Waubun. Killed was a 49-year-old man from Waubun, John Fagre, who was a passenger in a car driven by Lee Hagen of Coon Rapids, the Sheriff's Office reported.

Hagen, in critical condition at Innovis hospital in Fargo, N.D., was traveling north on Mahnomen County Road 3 when he struck a southbound vehicle driven by Lloyd Benson, 71, of Waubun, who died. Betty Benson, 71, a passenger in her husband's car, was in stable condition at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, the Sheriff's Office said.

In Wright County, a 45-year-old Monticello man was killed Saturday night when he crashed his motorcycle, the Sheriff's Office reported. The accident happened about 7:40 p.m. when the motorcyclist struck a road sign while traveling west on County Road 106. He died at the scene. By Sunday night, his identity had not been released.

A Minnesota motorcyclist was killed Friday in Wisconsin's Pierce County, the Sheriff's Department reported. Daniel Wolter, 44, of Apple Valley, died about 9:30 p.m. when he was thrown from his motorcycle on Hwy. 29 near River Falls.

Also in Pierce County, three Minnesota motorcyclists were injured Saturday afternoon.

Ronald Saltz, 45, of Cottage Grove, hit a truck near Elmwood, after he lost control of his motorcycle while going around a sharp curve and crossed into oncoming traffic. As Saltz made his way back into the southbound lane, he was hit by another motorcycle, driven by Daniel Schreir, 23, of Lexington, the Sheriff's Department said.

Saltz and a passenger, Rosemary Rodriguez, 42, also of Cottage Grove, were taken by helicopter to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Schreir was taken by ambulance to River Falls Area Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The driver of the truck was not injured.
