In theater, you can predict much about a production's future by opening night.

The same may be said for the Scene, a new young professionals group that supports the Hennepin Theatre Trust. The group's debut event Dec. 1 involved a happy hour at Bradstreet Craftshouse, opening night of "In the Heights" and a cast party for members of the touring production of the Tony-award winning musical. That's a marathon for most -- and on a Tuesday evening, no less.

"We're charting the course for young people in the arts," said Erin Harney, interim chairwoman for the Scene. "It's a way to engage young patrons and make the arts accessible to them." Future events will include music and comedy.

Charter members enjoyed pre-show cocktails and post-show mingling with the cast.

"One of the things I love most about Minneapolis is the rich local theater and music scene, so this group is right up my alley," said Dr. Meghan Sebasky, who was up for the five-hour party-to-show-to-party agenda. "It's the first time I have had the opportunity to do something like that, so I definitely didn't want to miss out!"

With reviews like that, it looks like the Scene is primed for a long run.
