A light-rail train struck a Minneapolis School District delivery truck in downtown Minneapolis shortly after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, halting the single-car train and disrupting service for about an hour.
The northbound train, which had only its operator aboard, came to a halt in the intersection of 5th Avenue S. and S. 5th Street, about halfway between the Hennepin County Government Center and the Metrodome.
A passenger in the truck walked to an ambulance and was taken a few blocks to the Hennepin County Medical Center, said Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland. The truck's driver and the train operator were not hurt.
The State Patrol was investigating how the crash occurred.
While the train sat there, Metro Transit buses filled in for train service spanning from the Target Field station south to the Downtown East/Metrodome station, Siqveland said.
"Trains began rolling again at 2:30," Siqveland said. "We thank our customers for their patience as trains resume their normal schedules."
The rail car was damaged on its left side near the front, and the operator's window was broken out.
The truck, which came to a stop facing north, has damage on the passenger side near the front. It was delivering tables and chairs to various locations around the city, a district spokeswoman said.
