TWINS UPDATE

The Twins have lost five of six games against the Mariners this season, getting outscored 27-11, with all six games at Seattle's Safeco Field. The one Twins pitcher to beat Seattle this year is Carl Pavano, who is out for the year because of shoulder issues. Going back to last season, they are 2-8 against the Mariners. ... Hendriks has a tough matchup with Hernandez in his bid for his first major league victory. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Hendriks is the only pitcher in club history to lose his first eight decisions as a starter.

MARINERS UPDATE

Seattle won eight in a row to close its last homestand but got swept by the White Sox in Chicago over the weekend. ... "King Felix" Hernandez followed up his perfect game vs. Tampa Bay on Aug. 15 by holding Cleveland to one run over 72/3 innings Tuesday. In 13 career starts against the Twins, he is 5-5 with a 2.40 ERA. ... Over his past seven starts, Iwakuma is 3-1 with a 2.27 ERA. ... Vargas had a run of 10 consecutive quality starts end Friday when the White Sox scored six runs off him over four innings.
