TWINS UPDATE

The Twins are 2-3 vs. the Mariners this year but haven't faced them since May. They split two games in Seattle then lost two of three at home. ... With three hits Monday vs. the Yankees, Ben Revere tied his career high for the fourth time. ... Michael Cuddyer broke a 24-game homerless stretch with his long ball to center Monday. ... All Twins players who didn't make the one-day trip to New York worked out at Target Field. ... Things are so bad for the Twins that even the trainers need surgery. Head trainer Rick McWane, who has had procedures on his leg in the past, will have another surgery on his leg Friday. ... Tuesday night is "Star Wars" at Target Field, which includes in-game entertainment related to the movies and serves as a fundraiser for Stand Up 2 Cancer.

MARINERS UPDATE

Like the Twins, Seattle had to make up an earlier rainout Monday, winning at Cleveland 12-6 in a rain-shortened game. Seattle is also stumbling towards the finish line, having lost 16 of 24. In the past nine games, Mariners hitters have struck out 102 times. ... Outfielder Franklin Gutierrez, righthander David Aardsma and infielder Chone Figgins are done for the year because of injuries. ... Michael Pineda, the promising 22-year-old rookie who beat the Twins on May 16 at Safeco Field, has four quality starts in a row but is 0-3 during that span because if poor run support. He hasn't won since July 30.
