TWINS UPDATE

The Twins opened interleague play last month by going 0-3 in Arizona. After going 53-19 against the National League from 2006 to 2009, the Twins went 8-10 in interleague play last year. They are 6-3 all-time against the Padres. The teams last met in 2008, when the Twins swept three games at Petco Park. ... Duensing is 1-6 with a 6.26 ERA since April 23. He pitched eight innings in a 6-0 victory at Kansas City on June 5 but lasted only two innings in a 9-3 loss to Texas last Friday. ... Baker and Liriano are both coming off complete-game victories against Texas.

PADRES UPDATE

Bud Black's team was the surprise of baseball last year, losing the NL West title to San Francisco on the season's final day. But this year, the Padres are in last place and have lost five of their past six. ... San Diego has three former Twins: Orlando Hudson, Pat Neshek and Jason Bartlett. Hudson, who signed a two-year, $11.5 million deal, is on the disabled list for the second time this season, this time because of a strained groin. Neshek had a 2.16 ERA before giving up a three-run homer to Colorado's Chris Ianetta on Wednesday. Bartlett is riding a seven-game hitting streak.
