TWINS UPDATE

The Twins are 6-10 against Detroit this season, losing the last two games at Target Field last week to lose a series to the Tigers for the fourth time. The Twins have been outscored 39-9 at Comerica Park, including 22-1 in a season-opening Detroit sweep. They are 32-42 on the road. … RHP Ricky Nolasco might be activated from the 60-day disabled list soon after missing nearly four months because of a right ankle impingement. … C Kurt Suzuki is 6-for-13 with two home runs against Simon. … Trevor Plouffe has a career high in hits this year with 135. … With two more home runs, Brian Dozier will become the seventh Twins player to reach the 30 homers and 30 doubles in a season.

TIGERS UPDATE

Having been out of the playoff race for quite some time, the Tigers, AL Central champions from 2011 to '14, are fighting to avoid finishing in last place for the first time since 2008. They are 11-11 in September. … Late-season closer Bruce Rondon was sent home Tuesday because of "effort level" as acknowledged by manager Brad Ausmus. Rondon had blown three of his past four save chances. … Miguel Cabrera's .337 batting average is second in baseball to the .339 of Washington's Bryce Harper. Cabrera is trying to win his fourth AL batting title. … Detroit's ERA of 4.70 is the worst in the AL and 28th in the majors. The Tigers' .270 batting average is second in the AL, but they are only ninth in runs scored. … Detroit is 50-66 vs. righthanded pitchers this season. … RHP Anibal Sanchez is out for the season (right rotator cuff).
