TWINS UPDATE

This is the first stop on a seven-game road trip that takes them to Detroit next weekend. The Twins are 6-6 on the road, and both of their road trips have followed an identical pattern: L-L-W-L-W-W. … This is their second trip to Cleveland already; the Twins took two out of three during season's first weekend. The Indians don't make their first of three trips to Target Field until after the All-Star break. … Deduno will make his first start of the season on Tuesday; he is replacing Mike Pelfrey, who was placed on the disabled list Friday because of a strained left groin. Deduno, who started 33 games for the Twins over the past two seasons, is 3-2 with a 3.89 ERA against the Indians for his career. … 1B Joe Mauer needs four doubles to tie Justin Morneau for fifth-most in Twins history, with 289. … The Twins are 1-9 in the first game of a series this season.

INDIANS UPDATE

They won two of three at home vs. the White Sox over the weekend but lost six in a row before that. They are 9-7 at home. … Tomlin, who had not given up a run in his past 20 innings at Class AAA Columbus, will get his first big-league start of the season on Tuesday. Tomlin, given a spot in the rotation when Carlos Carrasco was moved to the bullpen, has started five previous games against the Twins, going 1-3 with a 7.67 ERA. … Masterson earned his first win since last August on Saturday. … C/3B Carlos Santana is off to a terrible start, batting .152 with four homers and 11 RBI, but he is also second in the AL in walks with 24. He is also 5-for-8 with three home runs against Twins closer Glen Perkins. … 2B Jason Kipnis is on the disabled list because of an abdominal strain. C Yan Gomes will miss Monday's game, having been placed on the paternity list Saturday.
