TWINS UPDATE

This is a free fall. The Twins have won two -- two -- series since the All-Star break, with the last series victory coming Aug. 15-17 in Detroit. That was when the Twins traded Delmon Young to the Tigers, watched Jim Thome hit his 600th career home run and then took two of three from the eventual AL Central champions. The Twins have lost 10 series since then, not including their one-game visit (and loss) to New York on Monday. ... The Twins will have to sweep the Indians this weekend in order to win the season series. They are 6-8 vs. Cleveland. ... Rookies Rene Tosoni, Joe Benson and Trevor Plouffe each have hit two doubles in a game this month. ... Ben Revere is batting .425 during his nine-game hitting streak. He has swiped seven bases over that span ... Drew Butera broke an 0-for-21 skid with his fifth-inning RBI single Thursday.

INDIANS UPDATE

Josh Tomlin has been shut down for the rest of the season because of a sore right elbow. Although his rehab went well and he threw two scoreless innings recently during a simulated game, the Cleveland coaching staff decided there was no rush to start him. Righthander Mitch Talbot, who must be added to the 40-man roster, will take Tomlin's place. ... Thome, traded to his original team last month, will be honored on the field before Friday's game. Former Indians teammates Paul Sorrento, Chad Ogea, Carlos Baerga and Sandy Alomar Jr. will be on field for the ceremony. ... Cleveland's top minor league affiliate, the Columbus Clippers, won the Class AAA championship this week, beating Omaha, Kansas City's top team.
