TWINS UPDATE

The Twins are 2-3 on this nine-game, 11-day road trip that started in Kansas City and Chicago. They might have Francisco Liriano wait to pitch until Tuesday against Detroit since the lefthander matched his career-high with 123 pitches in Tuesday's no-hitter. ... Righthander Kevin Slowey, out since the first week of the season because of a strained right shoulder, is expected to come off the disabled list Saturday and will be pitching in a long-relief role. ... First baseman Justin Morneau is 2-for-18 on the road trip, though he did connect for his first home run at Kansas City and flied out to the warning track Wednesday in Chicago.

RED SOX UPDATE

After an 0-6 start, Boston has twice come within one game of .500, only to lose. The Red Sox were 14-15 before losing 5-3 in 13 innings to the Angels on Wednesday night. After a long rain delay, that game didn't end until 2:45 a.m. The Angels won 11-0 Thursday to split the four-game series. Daisuke Matsuzaka, who was scheduled to pitch Friday, had to pitch in relief Wednesday, so the Red Sox will use knuckleballer Tim Wakefield Friday, move Matsuzaka to Sunday and start Jon Lester to Monday. ... Boston placed relievers Bobby Jenks (strained right biceps) and Dan Wheeler (strained left calf) on the 15-day DL Thursday.
