C Kurt Suzuki was struck in the facemask by a foul ball in the eighth inning Wednesday at Detroit. The Twins were checking him out after the game to make sure there were no lingering effects. He has taken at least three direct shots to the mask on foul balls this season. Suzuki, by the way, needs one more hit for 1,000 in his career. … The Twins have played in 17 day games, tied with the Cubs and Nationals for the most in baseball. … The Twins' last save was on April 16 — 28 games ago. … The Twins were 2-5 against the Blue Jays last season but took two of three games at Target Field.

BLUE JAYS UPDATE

Manager John Gibbons on Thursday will serve the final game of his three-game suspension for his part in Sunday's bench-clearing melee at Texas. … Stroman is coming off his first loss in 16 starts, including the postseason, when he gave up seven runs on 13 hits — both career highs — vs. Tampa Bay on Tuesday. … Reliever Pat Venditte, who can pitch with either hand, was called up from Class AAA Buffalo on Tuesday. … Ex-Twins 1B Chris Colabello is serving an 80-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.
