TWINS UPDATE

The Twins open a six-game homestand — their final one of the season — against wild-card hopefuls Detroit and Seattle. … The Twins left Detroit last week with a split of the four-game series, knocking out three starters before the sixth inning. … Brian Dozier's 22-game hitting streak is the longest by a Twin since Torii Hunter had a 23-game streak in 2007. … Look for Robbie Grossman, who tied a career high with four hits Sunday, to be somewhere in the lineup Tuesday. Eddie Rosario is banged up and Grossman is 3-for-4 with a home run against Boyd. Plus, he's batting .374 against lefties this year with a 1.078 OPS. … It's time for the Verlander-Joe Mauer battles to continue. Mauer is a career .333 hitter against Verlander with four home runs and 11 RBI.

TIGERS UPDATE

Detroit is going to choose between Anibal Sanchez, Mike Pelfrey and Buck Farmer to start Wednesday's game. Pelfrey started the last time the spot came up, but he was knocked out in the second inning by the Twins. … Victor Martinez has been hit on the right knee with pitches in two of his past three games, leading to concerns that he might not be able to play Tuesday night. Considering that he's batting .615 in six games at Target Field this season — and .370 there for his career — look for him to play. … Ian Kinsler was hit in the head with a pitch Sunday but stayed in the game after passing concussion tests. But he began having headaches some time afterward, so watch for his availability. … Miguel Cabrera on Sunday became the 100th player to join the 2,500-hit club. At 33, he's the youngest to reach 2,500 hits since Hank Aaron in 1967.
