Senate bill toughens lending standard

The Minnesota Senate gave preliminary approval Tuesday to a bill that would allow lenders to verify a borrower's ability to pay and prohibit them from relying on just one source of repayment, such as income. The bill is an attempt to curb the granting of mortgages without a deep examination of a borrower's ability to repay the loan.
