Two semitrailer truck drivers killed in a head-on crash Tuesday on Interstate 90 in Winona County have been identified, police said.

Driver Michael R. Kalvig, 47, of Glenville, Minn., was heading east on the interstate when he suddenly crossed the median and hit an oncoming semitrailer truck traveling westbound, according to the State Patrol.

The commercial vehicles collided Tuesday about 12:10 p.m., just before Exit 267 to Nodine. Kalvig and the other driver, Abdulhafiz U. Hussein, a 37-year-old Roseville man, died at the scene. Neither driver was wearing his seat belt.

The State Patrol is investigating the crash, which ended with at least one vehicle rolling on its side before being engulfed in flames.

A stretch of the interstate was closed for much of the day, and traffic in both directions was diverted onto northbound Hwy. 61, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Eastbound lanes reopened early Tuesday evening, with the westbound lanes opening hours later, at about 9:45 p.m., once investigators gave the OK.
