The politically active Minnesota chapter of Service Employees International Union said it won't endorse a gubernatorial candidate before this weekend's convention, but that's not stopping a local's president from giving his nod.

Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak's campaign Wednesday sent out a campaign plea from Javier Morillo-Alicea on Rybak's behalf.

"I'm writing today to tell you why I support R.T. Rybak for governor," Morillo-Alicea said in the email. "I take this step as an individual — the four local unions that represent SEIU members in Minnesota have decided not to endorse a candidate for now. But after consulting with member leaders of Local 26, I know I am representing their views as well."

"I support R.T. because he has a powerful ability to connect with people, build unlikely partnerships, unite people behind a common purpose and get real results. I know this because I've seen it," he said.

Rybak is one of five DFL candidates who have pledged to drop out if he does not get this weekend's DFL endorsement, giving rise to many last minute endorsements.
