One single storm system will be the culprit behind seemingly endless roundsof showers and thunderstorms that will soon start rattling the Southwest. The unsettled weather will get underway on Sunday as the storm systemapproaches the California coastline. Moisture streaming out ahead of the systemwill cause the showers to stretch from San Francisco to Reno to Salt Lake City.
Mainly afternoon thunderstorms will rattle Flagstaff, Ariz.
The majority of the stormy conditions will stay north of Los Angeles and SanDiego on Sunday. However, patchy drizzle will start the day with a blanket ofclouds lingering overhead into the afternoon.
Showers and even thunderstorms will become increasingly more numerous in theLos Angeles basin Monday into Tuesday as the storm system crawls southward. Thestorm will creep to the east at midweek, enhancing thunderstorm activity overArizona.
It is not out of the question that some of the thunderstorms turn severe overArizona, including Phoenix, at midweek. However, the danger of thethunderstorms sparking potentially deadly lightning will exist each day overthe entire Southwest.
The storm system's slow pace through the Southwest is due to it gettingdetached from the fast flow of the jet stream. Residents can be thankful thatthe system is not tapping into rich moisture, which will prevent prolongedsteady and flooding rainfall from pouring down.
