Second person dies of injuries suffered in Minneapolis fire

A second person has died of injuries suffered in a fast-moving fire three weeks ago at a Minneapolis apartment building, police said Friday.

The name of the woman who died will be released by the Hennepin County medical examiner after an autopsy.

Her death is likely to lead to more extensive charges against a 30-year-old Minneapolis man who has been jailed since shortly after the fire. He faces likely murder and arson charges, police say.

The Oct. 6 fire at a three-floor apartment building in the 1500 block of Park Avenue S. led to the earlier death of 59-year-old Royce W. James, who jumped from a window to escape the fire. The woman who died this week also jumped from a window to escape the flames.

The fire remains under investigation by homicide and arson detectives.
