Second Minnesota hunter dies on opening weekend

A second Minnesota hunter's death was reported on Sunday as the state's deer firearms season wrapped up its first weekend.

Gene A. Berthiaume, 72, of St. Paul died about noon Saturday when he fell from his stand near Saum, according to the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.

A Maple Grove hunter died at about 9:45 a.m. Saturday in St. Louis County when his clothing caught fire as he tried to light a propane heater in his stand.

Arthur Joseph Knafla, 84, died in Lavell Township, southeast of Hibbing, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office. Knafla fell from the stand when his clothing began burning.
