Second ballot results: Emmer inches up to 56 percent, still short

Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Delano, got closer to the 60 percent needed to get the Republican endorsement for governor, but was still shy.

Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Delano, moved closer to the Republican gubernatorial endorsement at the state Republican convention Friday, getting 56 percent of the votes on the second ballot.

He needs 60 percent of the ballots to win the party's endorsement.

Emmer finished with 1,118 votes, or 56 percent, while Rep. Marty Seifert, R-Marshall, finished with 876 votes, or 43.8 percent.

Emmer received 52.6 percent of the votes on the first ballot.
