More than three weeks after she disappeared, Mandy Matula's family and friends will continue the search for her Saturday on the Mississippi River in St. Cloud, hoping all the boaters out for Memorial Day weekend will help scan area lakes.
"It gets a little bit frustrating," friend Josh Truax said about searches turning up empty, "but the motivation [to find her] outweighs the frustration."
Volunteers can meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church in Rice. Details on a Sunday search in Eden Prairie will be at www.startribune.com/a2247.
Matula, 24, of Eden Prairie, was last seen at 11 p.m. May 1 arguing with her ex-boyfriend David Roe as they left her home. Her mother called him at 8 a.m. to see why she hadn't returned; he told her she had left his car at Miller Park to walk home.
Her family reported her missing and Roe, who was studying criminal justice in St. Cloud, was called in for questioning. He fatally shot himself in the head in the police parking lot.
Volunteers and police have searched Eden Prairie, the Mississippi River and Victoria, where he lived.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Water Patrol searched Thursday near St. Cloud after previous searches in Eden Prairie. Little evidence has been found except an unfired bullet from his gun and her blood on his jacket.
A Hennepin County search warrant filed last week said Roe left a Post-it on his car about a goodbye video.
