Authorities are searching for a 66-year-old canoeist from Federal Dam, Minn., after finding his canoe overturned in Leech Lake.

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch said in a news release that at 6:49 p.m. Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office received a report of an overturned canoe on the east side of Leech Lake in the area of Sugar Point, about 80 miles north of Brainerd.

Search efforts began immediately and continued Wednesday, authorities said, with help from several agencies, including the Federal Dam Fire Department, Leech Lake Tribal Police, local and state Department of Natural Resources conservation officers, the Lakes Area Dive Team and the Minnesota State Patrol.
