About the Bears (2-4)

• The Bears have beaten the Vikings seven consecutive times at home.

• Chicago, which had a bye last week, has a one-point victory at Kansas City and a two-point win over Oakland, but lost decisively at home to Green Bay and Arizona and at Seattle.

• Nose tackle Jay Ratliff was released last week after being escorted by police from the Bears facility after an argument with GM Ryan Pace.

• Ex-Viking DE Jared Allen was traded to Carolina earlier in the season after the team switched to a 3-4 defense.

• WR Kevin White, the No. 7 pick in the draft, has not played this season — and likely won't — because of a leg injury.

• The Bears are 28th in total offense and ninth in defense, but tied for last in scoring defense (29.8).

Player speak QB JAY CUTLER

• Cutler's career record is 64-62 with one playoff victory.

• He's had costly interceptions in four games, but also led game-winning drives to beat the Raiders and Chiefs. He missed the Seattle game because of a hamstring injury.

• On adjusting to a new coach and a new system: "There's gonna be speed bumps the rest of the year, there always is whenever you line up new stuff."

• On WR Alshon Jeffrey, who had 147 yards receiving against the Lions: "He can make the big catch. More times than not he'll win the one on one … he's definitely a guy we want to get the ball."

Coach Speak JOHN FOX

• Fox was hired in January to replace Marc Trestman after winning four consecutive division titles with Denver (2011-14).

• He was also head coach at Carolina (2002-10) and led the Panthers and Broncos to Super Bowl appearances.

• Fox has a 129-100 record (8-7 in postseason, 3-2 against the Vikings). He is 10-3 in the week following a bye.

• On starting over in Chicago: "There are a lot of changes. You've got players learning new systems in all three phases, players getting used to the coaches and coaches getting used to the players … there are growing pains."

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
