Scouting report: Twins in Arizona

November 11, 2013 at 5:22AM

Three Twins hitting prospects are playing for the Glendale Desert Dogs. Here's how they have looked, with comments by scouts in attendance:

Byron Buxton, CF

Stats: .212 (11-for-52), 3 HR, 8 RBI, 15 K

Comments: "He's the No. 1 prospect, but he's not close to the best player here, not yet. He looks like a solid Double-A player right now. His defense is spectacular, and his plate discipline is impressive. Too bad he got hurt [shoulder strain], because I'd like to see how quickly he adjusts to the better pitching."

Eddie Rosario, 2B/OF

Stats: .221 (15-for-68), 0 HR, 7 RBI, 10 K

Comments: "Hits the ball a long way for a little guy, and he looks a little frustrated that he's not getting the results he's used to. Great swing, clearly projects to a big-league hitter in a year or two. He isn't nearly as confident in the field, though, and doesn't always make the right decisions. Needs more work at second base."

Max Kepler, 1B

Stats: .250 (15-for-60), 0 HR, 4 RBI, 11 K

Comments: "Probably two or three years from being as advanced as most of the guys here, so it's been rough. He's hanging in there, though, and is starting to catch up to some fastballs. He's playing first base out of necessity, but it's not his position, and it shows. There's a lot to like, he's going to be good. But he's in over his head right now."
