Smart luggage may not fly
So-called smart luggage that includes tracking technology and remote locks won't be allowed in the cargo holds of American Airlines or Delta Air Lines planes unless the lithium batteries used to power the devices are removed, the airlines said. The new policy from two of the world's biggest carriers takes effect Jan. 15 and reflects concerns that lithium batteries can start a fire and endanger planes. A representative of United Airlines said the carrier plans to announce similar restrictions soon. American Airlines will allow the bags as carry-on luggage, but Delta says it will allow them on the plane, in the cabin or in the cargo hold, only if the battery is removed.

Spirit to Seattle
Spirit Airlines will begin flying between Minneapolis-St. Paul and Seattle starting on April 12. Seattle represents the 16th destination from MSP for the airline, which operates out of the airport's Terminal 1. Spirit touts inexpensive fares and allows passengers to pay extra for options they choose — such as bags, seat assignments and refreshments. More than 1.2 million passengers boarded or deplaned a Spirit Airlines flight at MSP in 2016.

Mobile camping on Kilimanjaro
Mobile camping experiences, with easily movable tents and gear, are popping up in some of the most remote corners of the world, allowing travelers to explore unspoiled landscapes while leaving a light footprint. On Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, travelers can now navigate the Lemosho Route's rain forest and arctic terrain with REI Adventures' Signature Camping experience. In honor of the royal engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Trafalgar is taking 10 percent off two of its London tours.
